Ida PANAHANDEH

Born in Tehran in 1979, Ida Panahandeh is an internationally acclaimed Iranian filmmaker, known in particular for her sensitive exploration of the place of women in modern Iranian society. A graduate in directing from the Tehran University of Arts, she made her mark with her very first feature film Nahid (2015), presented in Un Certain Regard at Cannes where it won the Prize of the Future. Screen Daily compared her to the great neorealist directors, from Vittorio De Sica to the Dardenne brothers. Her subsequent films, Israfil (2017), The Nikaidos’ Fall (2018, co-produced with Naomi Kawase) and Titi (2020), confirm her talent for exploring contemporary social issues. In 2024, she made her series debut with At the End of the Night, for which she won the Best Direction award in the International Panorama at Séries Mania in 2025.
